Potential Splits
As discussed here, splits are a way of identifying groups of teams in a challenge-level that are competing separately from the other teams in the challenge-level. When looking at a list of teams, a team's split is noted by appending the split letter as in the example below.
Actually there are 2 splits in this example:
- M - designating 2 teams from Maine
- <blank> - designating 5 teams from New Hampshire
Each challenge-level starts with the default split that is designated with no appended letter. For a tournament with no splits, this is the only split as all teams in the challenge-level are competing against one another.
How do you control and use splits at a tournament?
First you declare the potential splits. This can be done in several places where you see the following:
This lists the potential splits as M and <blank>. Click the icon to edit the list of potential splits. You'll find this construct in the Scheduler Dashboard, when editing Tournament properties and when importing teams or the schedule.
Below is a screen shot of the page for editing splits for this example. The table lists the 2 splits (M and <blank>). It also tells you how many teams are in each split followed by the list of rooms that have teams in that split. The number in parentheses following the room is the number of teams in that split for that room.
If a split has no teams, you are given the option to delete the split.
To add a split, pick a letter in the Add a potential split area and click the Add Split button.
Once you have declared your potential splits, you can now use these split letters to designate teams in each split. There are several ways to do this.
- import teams and import schedule
The spread sheets used to import teams and import the schedule list each team as a row, One of the optional columns is split where you can use the letters you've declared to indicate the team's split. - for the scheduler, Collect Teams lets you edit a team's split
- for import schedule, Edit a Team lets you edit a team's split
- for the scheduler, Move Teams lets you edit a team's split
