The DI program operates in many countries.  As a result materials need to be available in multiple languages.  The translation facility helps in this regard by supplying certain materials in multiple languages.  Let's look at the materials potentially needed:

  • DI Challenges and Rules of the Road
These are perhaps the most critical as teams often need to study both in great detail.  These documents are typically PDFs and are posted in the documents area (Document=>view documents) of the Resource Area.  The English version of these documents are typically translated by individuals (using their preferred tools) and also placed in the Document=>view documents.

  • Score Sheets
The Resource Area has a translation facility for outputting these sheets in multiple languages. Creating score sheets is described here.
This allows users to pick a version of these sheets among various languages.  It also supports the Mobile Client presenting scored items in multiple languages.

  • Online Forms
The Resource Area has a translation facility for producing these online forms in multiple languages.  Creating online forms is described here.
This allows users to pick a version of these online forms among various language.  It also supports the Mobile Client presenting team online form information in multiple languages.

  • Website Interfaces
DMS is built on CodeIgniter that has a mechanism for supporting pages in multiple languages.  Internally, this is used in a few places, however, much of the website is strictly English.  This applies to the Mobile Client also.

The translation facility has its limits. The website is highly left-to-right so languages that are right-to-left (arabic) will likely not display properly. Most of the website is based on UTF-8 character set.
