Using the Scoring Program
DI currently has 2 scoring programs.
- a java-based app known as the Classic Scoring Program
- Advantages
- can enter appraiser scores from paper score sheets
- can collect appraiser scores from the Mobile Client
- handles more complex advancement rules
- has a wider variety of reports
- Disadvantages
- needs to be downloaded and installed on a computer each year
- understands challevs but not rooms at the tournament
- does not track changes to teams or appraisers in real-time (you need to re-import scores)
- you need to track updates to the app
- a web-based app known as the Web Scoring Program
- Advantages
- requires no installation - it is a web-based app
- bug fixes are handled by restarting the app
- can view tournaments using either rooms or challevs
- responds to real-time changes to team status and appraiser scores
- Disadvantages
- no score entry from paper score sheets - you must use the Mobile Client
- handles only simple advancement rules
- fewer reports
The links below illustrate basic usage of each of the scoring program. Both assume that appraisers will be scoring teams using the Mobile Client (more than 90% of DI's tournament use the Mobile Client). If your appraisers will be recording scores using paper score sheets, using the Classic Scoring Program in this fashion is NOT covered here.
